AI Training FAQs

The Office of Technology is offering AI Training Workshops from October 22nd, through November 10th, 2025. These workshops are offered to all members of the UCM Community. See the list below for the each 45 minute training session and a list of frequently asked questions. Please contact the Office of Technology for any additional questions or concerns.

 

Registration dates: 

  • AI for Staff: Wednesday, October 22 at 1:30 pm.  
  • AI for Students: Wednesday, October 22 at 2:30 pm.  
  • Introduction to AI: Thursday, October 23 at 2:30 pm.  
  • Developing Use-Cases: Monday, October 27 at 2:30 pm.  
  • Best Practices in AI Usage: Wednesday, October 29 at 2:30 pm.  
  • Ethics and AI Literacy: Thursday, October 30 at 2:30 pm.  
  • Prompt Engineering: Monday, November 3 at 2:30 pm.  
  • Integrated Workflows*: Thursday, November 6 at 2:30 pm.  
  • Low Code Automation*: Monday, November 10 at 2:30 pm.  

* Please Note: These two advanced workshops are hands-on, on-ground sessions and require advanced registration. To ensure a quality experience, registration is capped at 10 participants. These sessions are intended for attendees who have experience with generative AI or have attended an earlier workshop in this series. A personal laptop with pre-installed software is required; installation instructions will be sent upon registration.

Do I need supervisor approval to attend the AI Training Sessions?

While supervisor approval is not required for registration, it would be best practice to confer with your supervisor in advance of registering or attending.

For whom is this training intended?

These workshops are offered to all members of the UCM community.

How long are the training sessions?

Each session will be 45 minutes long.

Will sessions be recorded?

Yes, recordings will be available after the sessions for future access.

Do I need to register?

Yes, once you have registered, a link for the training’s live stream event will be sent to you as part of the registration acknowledgment. Please note that because these sessions are for the UCM community, you must have a UCMO.edu email to register.

How do I get the registration link?

Registration links for each session are as follows:
  • AI for Staff: This session will be tailored toward staff on introducing Gemini and use cases involving workflows. Wednesday, October 22 at 1:30 pm.
  • AI for Students: This session will be an introduction to Google Gemini as well as best practices in working with AI. Wednesday, October 22 at 2:30 pm.
  • Introduction to AI: This session will explore a deeper dive into Large Language Models and how they function. Thursday, October 23 at 2:30 pm.
  • Developing Use-Cases: The challenge of AI is in the development of use-cases. This session will focus on how to develop and evaluate use cases. Monday, October 27 at 2:30 pm.
  • Best Practices in AI Usage: This session will focus on additional tools within the Gemini environment such as image generation, mathematics, code, and query development. Wednesday, October 29 at 2:30 pm.
  • Ethics and AI Literacy: A review of ethical, governance, and compliance issues relevant to AI usage in Higher Education. Thursday, October 30 at 2:30 pm.
  • Prompt Engineering: The quality of AI output is determined by the quality of the inputs. This session will focus on how to write precision prompts for Gemini. Monday, November 3 at 2:30 pm.
  • Integrated Workflows*: This advanced session will focus on how to use JupyterLabs to create a singular information source with multiple outputs. Thursday, November 6 at 2:30 pm.
  • Low Code Automation*: This advanced session will focus on using Gemini to create the scripts to automate processes. Monday, November 10 at 2:30 pm.

Are there any prerequisites to attend any of the sessions?

All sessions other than the last two sessions assume no prior knowledge of (sessions requiring some pre-existing AI knowledge are “Integrated Workflows” and “Low Code Automation”).  These advanced training sessions will cover complex AI topics and require hands-on participation; it would be helpful for participants to either have completed a previous session or have experience in working with an AI. Also, the last two training sessions are in-person events with a capped number of attendees and require participants to have access to a computing device with specific software during the session. OT will deliver the specialized software after participant registration and confirmation. These advanced sessions will NOT be recorded.

Should I attend all sessions?

You are welcome to attend as many of the sessions as you would like and that are convenient.

Why is UCM offering AI Training?

As part of the institution’s move into an AI future, and as a learning organization, UCM stands committed to informing and supporting community members in developing their AI skills.

Will there be other training sessions in the future?

Yes. DLII will continue to offer workshops and support for faculty AI usage. Additionally, the recordings of these above mentioned AI Training sessions will continue to be available on the OT website.
