GEM is an initiative by the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) that collaborates with academic institutions to offer online general education courses, enabling airmen and guardians to meet the CCAF Associate of Applied Science degree requirements.

“This partnership allows UCM to offer flexible, online course options that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, making it easier for military students to complete their general education requirements,” said Courtney Swoboda, director of UCM’s Military and Veteran Services office.

She added, “Becoming a GEM school allows us to provide a clearer pathway for these students to meet requirements for CCAF and the opportunity to meet requirements for their degree at UCM. We have taken great strides in ensuring we provide as many opportunities as possible for our service members, and becoming a GEM school is another exciting partnership.”

This new collaboration underscores UCM’s commitment to supporting military students in achieving their educational goals efficiently and effectively.

“GEM allows for students and advisors to easily see which UCM course will complete the general education areas required by their CCAF degrees,” said Brenda Fuhr, manager of student transition and engagement. “This allows for simple and transparent articulations for GEM students as they complete their associate degree and hopefully return to UCM to finish a bachelor's degree.”
